Apple Pie Filling Recipe: Sweet and Spiced

Classic Apple Pie Filling with spiced apples and thick sauce.

Ingredients
  

  • 5 large apples peeled, cored, sliced (6 cups)
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup brown sugar packed
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
  • ¼ tsp ground allspice optional
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • ¼ cup water
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • Optional: Cinnamon stick apple slices
  • Suggested Pairings: Pie crust hot cider

Instructions
 

  • Toss apples with lemon juice, sugars, cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice. Taste and adjust the sweetness.
  • Whisk cornstarch and water for slurry.
  • Melt butter in saucepan, cook apples 5–7 minutes, add slurry, cook 2–3 minutes until thick.
  • Cool slightly or completely for pie.
  • Serve in a white ceramic bowl with cinnamon stick, cider.

Notes

  • Use mixed apples for complex flavor.
  • Store in the fridge for 5 days or freeze for 3 months.
  • Try vegan or low-sugar variations.
  • Pair with ice cream.
