Bulgogi Recipe: Sweet and Savory Korean Beef

Ingredients
  

  • 1.5 lbs beef ribeye or sirloin thinly sliced
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp mirin
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tsp grated fresh ginger
  • ½ Asian pear grated
  • 2 tbsp chopped green onions
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 1 medium onion thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • Optional: Sesame seeds green onions
  • Suggested Pairings: Rice kimchi, barley tea

Instructions
 

  • Whisk soy sauce, sugar, sesame oil, mirin, vinegar, garlic, ginger, pear, green onions, pepper, and sesame seeds. Taste and adjust the marinade.
  • Marinate beef and onion for 30 minutes–2 hours.
  • Cook in a hot skillet with oil, 2–3 minutes per side, in batches.
  • Serve on a white ceramic platter with sesame seeds, green onions, rice, kimchi, and tea.

Notes

  • Slice beef thinly for tenderness.
  • Store in the fridge for 3 days or freeze for 2 months.
  • Try vegan or spicy variations.
  • Pair with lettuce wraps.
