Candied Yams Recipe: Sweet and Comforting

Ingredients
  

  • 3 large yams 2 lbs, peeled, cut into 1-inch chunks
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • ¾ cup brown sugar packed
  • ¼ cup maple syrup
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp ground nutmeg
  • ¼ tsp ground ginger
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ¼ cup orange juice optional
  • Optional: Cinnamon parsley, pecans
  • Suggested Pairings: Roasted turkey iced tea

Instructions
 

  • Boil yams 8–10 minutes until tender; drain.
  • Melt butter in a saucepan; add sugar, syrup, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, vanilla, salt, and orange juice. Whisk until bubbly. Taste and adjust the sweetness or spice.
  • Preheat oven to 375°F. Place yams in a greased 9x13-inch dish; pour glaze over, toss.
  • Bake 25–30 minutes, stirring halfway, until caramelized.
  • Serve in a white ceramic dish with cinnamon, parsley, turkey, and iced tea.

Notes

  • Boil yams until just tender.
  • Store in the fridge for 5 days or freeze for 2 months.
  • Try vegan or low-sugar variations.
  • Pair with green beans.
