Instructions
Preheat oven to 400°F; line baking sheet with parchment.
Whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt; taste and adjust the seasoning.
Cut in butter until crumbly. Whisk milk, egg, and vanilla; stir into flour until just combined.
Pat the dough into a 1-inch circle; cut into 8 wedges. Brush with milk; bake for 15–18 minutes.
Serve on a white ceramic platter with powdered sugar, cream, jam, berries, and tea.
Notes
Use cold butter for flakiness.
Store at room temperature for 2 days or freeze for 2 months.
Try blueberry or savory variations.
Pair with lemon curd.
