Classic Scones Recipe: Tender and Flaky

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 6 tbsp cold unsalted butter cubed
  • cup whole milk or heavy cream
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Optional: Powdered sugar clotted cream, jam
  • Suggested Pairings: Fresh berries black tea

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 400°F; line baking sheet with parchment.
  • Whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt; taste and adjust the seasoning.
  • Cut in butter until crumbly. Whisk milk, egg, and vanilla; stir into flour until just combined.
  • Pat the dough into a 1-inch circle; cut into 8 wedges. Brush with milk; bake for 15–18 minutes.
  • Serve on a white ceramic platter with powdered sugar, cream, jam, berries, and tea.

Notes

  • Use cold butter for flakiness.
  • Store at room temperature for 2 days or freeze for 2 months.
  • Try blueberry or savory variations.
  • Pair with lemon curd.
