Ingredients
  

  • Country Fried Steak:
  • 4 cube steaks 4–6 oz each
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ¼ tsp paprika
  • ¼ tsp cayenne pepper optional
  • 2 large eggs
  • ¼ cup whole milk
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Creamy White Gravy:
  • 2 tbsp reserved frying oil or butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups whole milk
  • ½ tsp kosher salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • Optional: Chopped parsley
  • Suggested Pairings: Mashed potatoes sweet tea

Instructions
 

  • Mix flour, salt, pepper, and spices; whisk eggs and milk.
  • Dredge steaks in flour, egg, then flour again.
  • Fry at 350°F for 3–4 min per side; drain.
  • Make gravy: whisk oil and flour, add milk, salt, and pepper; cook until thick.
  • Taste and adjust the gravy.
  • Serve on a white ceramic platter with gravy, parsley, potatoes, and tea.

Notes

  • Maintain oil at 350°F for crispiness.
  • Store steaks in the fridge for 3 days or freeze for 2 months; gravy is best fresh.
  • Try a vegan or spicy variation.
  • Pair with cornbread.
