Eggnog Recipe: Creamy and Festive

Ingredients
  

  • 4 large egg yolks
  • cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp ground nutmeg
  • ¼ tsp ground cinnamon
  • tsp ground cloves optional
  • ¼ tsp kosher salt
  • ½ cup bourbon or rum optional
  • Optional: Whipped cream nutmeg, cinnamon sticks
  • Suggested Pairings: Gingerbread cookies coffee

Instructions
 

  • Whisk yolks and sugar until pale.
  • Heat milk, cream, spices, and salt until simmering.
  • Temper eggs with hot milk; return to saucepan.
  • Cook to 160°F, stirring, for 5-8 minutes; don’t boil.
  • Stir in vanilla and bourbon; strain and chill for 2 hours.
  • Garnish with whipped cream and nutmeg; serve with cookies and coffee.

Notes

  • Cook to 160°F for safety.
  • Store in the fridge for 3-5 days; don’t freeze.
  • Try a non-alcoholic variation.
  • Pair with shortbread.
