Homemade Marinara Sauce Recipe: Rich and Tangy

Ingredients
  

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 medium onion finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 28 oz cans whole peeled tomatoes, crushed
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • ½ tsp red pepper flakes optional
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • ¼ cup fresh basil chopped
  • Optional: Fresh basil leaves
  • Suggested Pairings: Pasta red wine

Instructions
 

  • Heat oil in a saucepan; sauté onion for 4–5 minutes, add garlic for 30 seconds.
  • Stir in tomato paste, cook 1–2 minutes. Add tomatoes, oregano, basil, red pepper flakes, sugar, salt, and pepper. Taste and adjust the seasoning.
  • Simmer for 25–30 minutes. Stir in fresh basil, cook 2–3 minutes.
  • Blend for a smooth texture (optional).
  • Serve in a white ceramic bowl with basil, pasta, and wine.

Notes

  • Use San Marzano tomatoes for the best flavor.
  • Store in the fridge for 5 days or freeze for 3 months.
  • Try spicy or vegetable variations.
  • Pair with garlic bread.
