Pie Crust Recipe: Flaky and Buttery

Flaky all-butter pie crust for any filling.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp sugar optional
  • 1 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 6-8 tbsp ice water
  • Optional: Egg wash 1 egg + 1 tsp water, coarse sugar
  • Suggested Pairings: Pie fillings coffee

Instructions
 

  • Mix flour, salt, and sugar; cut in butter until crumbly.
  • Add ice water, form dough; divide into 2 disks, and chill for 1 hour.
  • Roll into a 12-inch circle and fit into a 9-inch pie dish; crimp edges.
  • Chill for 30 minutes (optional); blind bake at 375°F for 25 minutes if needed.
  • Brush with egg wash, sprinkle sugar (for sweet pies).
  • Serve in a white ceramic dish with fillings and coffee.

Notes

  • Keep butter cold for flakiness.
  • Store dough in the fridge for 2 days or freeze for 3 months.
  • Try a gluten-free variation.
  • Pair with whipped cream.
