Instructions
Combine warm water, sugar, and yeast; let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.
Mix flour, salt, yeast mixture, and butter; knead 8–10 minutes until smooth.
Taste and adjust the dough with salt or sugar.
Let the dough rise 1–1.5 hours until doubled.
Shape into a loaf; place in a greased 9x5-inch pan. Rise 30–45 minutes.
Preheat oven to 375°F; brush with milk.
Bake 30–35 minutes until golden.
Cool 1 hour; serve on a white ceramic platter.
Notes
Use warm water for yeast activation.
Store at room temperature for 4 days or freeze for 3 months.
Try a whole wheat or herbed variation.
Pair with jam.
