Stromboli Recipe: Cheesy and Italian-Inspired

Ingredients
  

  • Dough:
  • 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water 110°F
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Filling:
  • 1 cup marinara sauce
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 4 oz pepperoni slices
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • ¼ tsp red pepper flakes optional
  • Topping:
  • 1 egg beaten
  • 1 tbsp Italian seasoning
  • 2 tbsp grated Parmesan cheese
  • Optional: Fresh basil marinara sauce
  • Suggested Pairings: Red wine Caesar salad

Instructions
 

  • Mix yeast, water, and sugar; add flour, salt, and oil. Knead; let rise 1 hr.
  • Mix marinara with oregano, garlic, flakes; taste and adjust.
  • Roll the dough to 12x16 inches.
  • Spread sauce, add cheese, pepperoni; taste filling seasonings.
  • Roll tightly, seal, brush with egg, sprinkle seasoning, and Parmesan.
  • Bake at 400°F for 20–25 min.
  • Slice; serve on a white ceramic platter with basil.

Notes

  • Seal edges to prevent leaks.
  • Store in fridge for 3 days or freeze for 2 months.
  • Try a vegetarian or gluten-free variation.
  • Pair with garlic bread.
