- Cabbage Rolls:
- 1 large head of green cabbage
- ¾ lb ground beef
- ¼ lb Italian sausage
- 1 cup cooked white rice
- 1 small onion chopped
- 1 garlic clove minced
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp kosher salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp dried dill
- ½ tsp smoked paprika
- Smoky Tomato Sauce:
- 1 15 oz can crushed tomatoes
- 1 8 oz can tomato sauce
- 1 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- ½ tsp kosher salt
- ¼ tsp black pepper
- Optional: Fresh dill parsley, extra tomato sauce
- Suggested Pairings: Red wine mashed potatoes
Blanch 12 cabbage leaves; cool and dry.
Mix beef, sausage, rice, onion, garlic, egg, seasonings; taste and adjust.
Roll 2–3 tbsp filling in each leaf; place in a 9x13-inch dish.
Simmer sauce ingredients; taste and adjust. Pour half over rolls.
Bake at 350°F, covered, for 1 hr.
Serve in a white ceramic dish with dill and sauce.
