Turkey Chili Recipe: Hearty and Flavorful

Ingredients
  

  • 1 lb ground turkey 93% lean
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 medium onion diced
  • 1 red bell pepper diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 jalapeño seeded, minced (optional)
  • 1 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • ½ tsp dried oregano
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • 1 can 15 oz black beans, drained
  • 1 can 15 oz kidney beans, drained
  • 1 can 28 oz crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup chicken or vegetable broth
  • 1 cup frozen corn optional
  • Optional: Cilantro cheese, sour cream, avocado
  • Suggested Pairings: Cornbread Mexican beer

Instructions
 

  • Heat oil in a pot; cook turkey 5-7 min, drain fat. Add onion, bell pepper, garlic, jalapeño; sauté 4-5 min.
  • Add chili powder, cumin, paprika, oregano, salt, pepper; cook 1-2 min. Taste and adjust the seasoning.
  • Add beans, tomatoes, broth; boil, then simmer 25-30 min. Add corn in the last 5 min.
  • Adjust consistency with broth or water if needed.
  • Serve in white ceramic bowls with cilantro, cheese, sour cream, cornbread, and beer.

Notes

  • Rinse beans to reduce sodium.
  • Store in the fridge for 5 days or freeze for 3 months.
  • Try vegan or spicy variations.
  • Pair with tortilla chips.
