White Gravy Recipe: Creamy, Peppery

Creamy Southern white gravy (country gravy) with cracked pepper

Ingredients
  

  • ¼ cup pan drippings or butter
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 –1½ tsp cracked black pepper
  • ½ tsp kosher salt

Instructions
 

  • Heat drippings/butter in the skillet.
  • Whisk in flour; cook 2–3 min.
  • Slowly add milk, whisking constantly.
  • Simmer until thickened.
  • Season aggressively with pepper + salt.
  • Serve hot over biscuits.

Notes

• Use drippings for the best flavor
• Fresh cracked pepper = everything
• Reheats with a splash of milk
