Ingredients
  

  • Red Velvet Cake:
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ cups vegetable oil
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tbsp red food coloring
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp white vinegar
  • Cream Cheese Frosting:
  • 16 oz cream cheese softened
  • ½ cup unsalted butter softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Optional: Powdered sugar cake crumbs
  • Suggested Pairings: Berries coffee

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F; grease and line two 9-inch pans.
  • Sift dry ingredients; whisk wet ingredients, combine. Divide into pans.
  • Bake 25–30 minutes; cool completely.
  • Beat frosting ingredients; taste and adjust the sweetness. Frost layers.
  • Slice, dust with powdered sugar, and serve on a white ceramic stand with berries and coffee.

Notes

  • Use room-temperature ingredients.
  • Store in the fridge for 5 days or freeze unfrosted for 2 months.
  • Try gluten-free or vegan variations.
  • Pair with mint.
